I've not had time to update the blog of late but thought I would write a few notes from today's birding activities. A lot of time put in with little to show really. I began at Langley Park where the only bird of note, away from breeding records, was a lone Common Whitethroat singing in brambles.
I then walked around Black Park where a single Common Raven was observed overhead calling while at the lake a couple of pairs of Mandarin Duck and a pair of Egyptian Goose showed well.
Then off to Staines Reservoir where I noted a single Grey Plover and one Arctic Tern present with four Common Tern on the drained north basin.
Then back home and a brief visit to Woodoaks Farm where a female Northern Wheatear was present behind the dung heap. A single male Yellow Wagtail had been seen before my arrival but did not show during my visit. Then finally an evening visit to Maple Lodge Nature Reserve where two singing male Reed Warbler were present in the phragmites reed. A total of three adult Great Crested Grebe were also seen, a pair with young from Long Hedge Hide and a singleton showing well at the Clubhouse Lake.
At Lynsters Farm a single Eurasian Oystercatcher was observed busily hunting worms.
